Why is this important?

Well, here’s a scary fact:

Water scarcity already affects every continent. Around 1.2 billion people, or almost one-fifth of the world’s population, live in areas of physical scarcity, and 500 million people are approaching this situation. Another 1.6 billion people, or almost one quarter of the world’s population, face economic water shortage (where countries lack the necessary infrastructure to take water from rivers and aquifers).” – UN

Water scarcity is among the main problems to be faced by many societies and the World in the XXIst century. Water use has been growing at more than twice the rate of population increase in the last century, and, although there is no global water scarcity as such, an increasing number of regions are chronically short of water.

  • With the existing climate change scenario, almost half the world’s population will be living in areas of high water stress by 2030, including between 75 million and 250 million people in Africa. In addition, water scarcity in some arid and semi-arid places will displace between 24 million and 700 million people. – UN (https://www.un.org/waterforlifedecade/scarcity.shtml

Did you know that most beauty products contain about 80-95% water? (Tina Hedges, founder of Loli) These are severely diluted products that tend to be less efficacious, essentially acting as a cheap filler for your cosmetics. It is most often labeled as Aqua in the ingredients list. Added water also implies parabens, which are toxic, to keep bacterial growth at bay.

ViLAU has specially designed waterless serums packed with ingredients that are naturally antibacterial and that provide your cells with the material to repair and rebuild, that is easily absorbed through the layers of your skin (deep within, reaching the hypodermis).

Our serums are still so liquidy- but they don’t contain added water… how is that possible?

Well, our primary ingredient for all of our products is Aloe Vera, which is about 98% water, so does that count as waterless? In fact it does. You see, water based cosmetics and skincare uses fresh water sources directly, which holds no active ingredients for your skin. Whereas Aloe Vera contains insane amounts of active ingredients and vitamins that are antibacterial and antimicrobial, greatly reduces bacterial growth, and naturally has a longer shelf life without preservatives than water based materials.

It is not only our goal to reduce global water scarcity by avoiding the use of water in our formulations, but also for the added benefit of product quality for your skin. Water based products (top ingredients include “Aqua”) are more drying, and do not agree as well with aged or dry skin. Not only does dry or aging skin benefit from going waterfree, but every other skin type benefits immensely from absorbing high doses of active ingredients. \https://fashionista.com/2019/12/waterless-beauty-skin-care-products

Our ancestors – globally – have been using aloe vera for centuries for its curative and powerful healing properties, both internally and externally. You can see our amazing testimonials that can prove this, along with countless research papers available online. So to add to this already incredibly potent material, we add more all natural ingredients that are scientifically backed for their effectiveness, to nourish and cleanse your skin without being diluted. Our formulations speak for themselves. We are able to provide powerfully effective skincare for everyone, using only what mother nature has to offer us, in the purest forms. Aloe vera juice is jam-packed with nutrients. It contains important vitamins and minerals like vitamins B, C, E, and folic acid. Hydrating aloe vera juice may help reduce the frequency and appearance of acne. It may also help reduce skin conditions like psoriasis and dermatitis. Aloe vera is a rich source of antioxidants and vitamins that may help protect your skin. The important compounds in aloe vera have also been shown to neutralize the effects of ultraviolet (UV) radiation, repair your skin from existing UV damage, and help prevent fine lines and wrinkles.

An added bonus in terms of sustainability, waterless products are more compact (since you don’t use fillers) and lightweight, therefore, reducing shipping weight and require the use of less plastic packaging. The less of a products’ effectiveness, the more people consume of it- which leads to increased landfill waste.

Not only does dry or aging skin benefit from going waterfree, but every other skin type benefits immensely from absorbing high doses of active ingredients.

Alongside going water free, we have specially designed and assembled machines by our CFO to ensure we are WASTE free with our products. This enables us to make precise batches, while leaving no creams or serums to be thrown out or washed out.

All of our machines are in compliance with the FDA, and are all NIMA. Our machines are all stainless steel.
